Welcome to Chatting the Pictures. Every two weeks, we present a short, lively video discussion between Michael Shaw, publisher of Reading the Pictures, and writer, professor, and historian, Cara Finnegan, examining a significant picture in the news. Chatting the Pictures is produced by Liliana Michelena.
Hurricane Ida wreaked noticeable havoc from Louisiana to the Northwest. Some of the fallout wasn’t that obvious though. We take a closer look at this photograph by Chris Granger for The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. Considering additional images by Julie Dermansky for DeSmog.com, we detail the threat to the town of Norco and St. Charles Parish from the dark clouds of gas in the distance. A photo by Walker Evans also makes an appearance.
