The pic of the week. But not because it had buttons in it, including a red one. Because-leading off the year, especially-it was so strikingly Trump-free. #boundaries #nkorea #skorea pic.twitter.com/TH0X93dOz2

Most people were happy to escape 2017 with all its drama and vitriol. No surprise though, in the era of Trump, the short week after New Years was thoroughly charged. The visual media sphere was filled with another intense weather anomaly, the bitter Bomb Cyclone. The even bigger bomb came from Michael Wolff’s book further exposing the president’s ineptitude after he spent months hanging out at the White House as a fly on the wall. More tension between Trump and North Korea dominated the international scene, along with unrest in Iran. Welcome to 2018.
The Trump White House reveals itself in the margins, when they’re not “going live.” Check out @PressSec‘s expression entering the briefing room before the Bannon response. The trepidation makes perfect sense. The place has become a mine field. 📷 @Al_Drago @bloomberg via @Getty pic.twitter.com/f0f6llRoeH

Best part of the “Burger King” illo in the @MichaelWolffNYC article? Beyond the rage, the Kelly-free paroxysm, the wardrobe fethishized by @maggieNYT, and the other blonde (“the station I never watch”), it’s the famed “me” circle and monitors like mirrors. Saw this on @somogettynews’s Instagram, captioned: “Toy Air Force One in your path.” Beyond cute, we’d dare to call it predicative. In one click of the calendar, Trump’s shtick feeling very old. pic.twitter.com/OTlN7OvLV3

After all the coverage the year before, what made one more deadly #Mediterranean #migrant crossing stand out? That the sea might have been painted by an Impressionist? 📷@EmilioMorenatti @AP_Images @washingtonpost pix of the year @Pro_Activa_SL @openarms_found #Libyans pic.twitter.com/BpJibHzBDA
