This week’s visual news was dominated by the first charges brought in the Trump Campaign Russia investigation. Our coverage focused on the indicted campaign chair, but we were also interested in the surprise charges brought against a Trump campaign foreign policy advisor. Nothing like tying his Russian connection, and his presentation of it to Trump, to a meeting photo the President-elect actually tweeted. Then, we posted some Getty photos that seemed to anticipate Kushner also getting charged.
Also this week, we saw more visual cracks in the Trump, and the Republican wall. The Jeff Flake retirement photo was particularly ironic. Still, the Democrats (by way of that NYT Mag cover) didn’t come off any better.
This week saw more demonstrations of cultural extremism, especially evidenced by white power rallies in Tennessee. We saw progressive signs also, from the Pope, to Trudeau’s son’s Halloween costume, believe it or not, to a brilliant visual critique of news photos stereotyping Iran.
Finally, a near-full page photo on the cover of The New York Times indicated to us how visuals continue to play an ever-larger role in the media culture.
Smart photo editing. Isn’t putting on credentials, and the effortful attempt, at the core of double dealing? @reuters #Manafort #Indictment pic.twitter.com/lVZJDjYcau

Why is the q. Traditionally, size/width a function of story importance. To us, this is major statement about rising impact of visuals alone. https://t.co/9zrXblcIRX
