To Friends and Readers of Reading the Pictures:
Since 2003, Reading the Pictures has stimulated a vital dialogue between the photojournalism community, academia, media watchers and social media about the critical images of the day.
Reading the Pictures has been fearless in the pursuit of three goals: speaking truth to visual power; raising visual literacy; and creating a “go-to” destination for expert- and citizen-readers alike to understand visual media and culture.
This kind of effort doesn’t happen without resources. We depend on reader support to maintain and expand this vital mission.
Reading the Pictures is a web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) educational and publishing organization dedicated to visual culture, visual literacy, media literacy through the analysis of cultural, news and documentary images.
As a result of our non-profit status, you are able to donate and receive a charitable tax donation for your contribution. All funds donated to Reading the Pictures go toward operating expenses. That consists of everything from bandwidth, software licenses and contractor costs to developing customized features and services for the site.
We urge you to help us support and expand our unique role as a think tank for visual culture, a “live classroom” for visual literacy, a visual media watchdog and a vigorous advocate for concerned photography.
Contributions can be made below via PayPal (you can use your credit card) below or you can send a check. Checks should be made payable to “Reading the Pictures” in the memo line and sent to: Reading the Pictures, 2705 Webster St. Ste. 5543, Berkeley, CA 94705
Thanks so much for helping secure our mission,
