I pulled this off the #911Museum Instagram tag last night.
Yeah, there’s been a lot of buzz about the entry fee and the gift shop. (I saw the removal of the commemorative cheese plate got a lot of attention the other day.) Also in the feed, people were spam posting a shot of the security scanners. Say what you want about the accompanying screed, the image is pretty ironic.
Still this photo, in tandem with the comment, comes at the issue more subtly. Is the 9/11 Museum a memorial or is it, ultimately, an art museum, cultural temple and design artifact — as if NY couldn’t help itself? With the shiny steel furniture in the foreground of the charred steel beams, drmancandy frames how the tone is off.
I think he meant “whole” instead of “while,” by the way, although the latter is interesting to contemplate — as in, a place to while. The Dictionary.com definition for the verb is: “to cause (time) to pass, especially in some easy or pleasant manner.”
