In shooting down Angle, Paladino, O’Donnell and McMahon, it seems the American people — consistently underestimated by the punditocracy — showed they know the difference between ideology, on the one hand, and character (or psychopathology) on the other. Now (building on Jon Stewart’s great first attempt at establishing sanity as a fundamental criteria of social discourse), if we could just get the media and political world to stop reinforcing these desperate, attention-seeking people, and recognize, instead, what personality disorders (and, in sad Carl’s case, decompensation) actually looks like ….
