Candidate's "Ground Zero" Scare Tactic Only 3 Examples Short of a History Lesson

Wow, you’ve just gotta love this political ad from Renee Ellmers, a candidate for Congress in North Carolina’s 2^nd District.  She’s earned some notoriety lately for her  “No Mosque at Ground Zero” campaign and TV ad.

The ad opens with three paintings of battle scenes, consecutively titled: “638 A.D. – Muslim Conquest of Jerusalem”; “711 A.D. – Muslims Conquer Cordoba”; and “1454 A.D. – Muslims Conquer Constantinople.”  Drawing a parallel between these three major historical victories of the “Islamic infidels” over Christian strongholds, the ad then pivots to what could similarly happen in New York, the video showing photos of three modern-day “mosques” anchoring each location.

What’s hilarious, though — except for viewers of the ad who don’t know the difference — is the status or fate of each Islamic site — as I’ve annotated on the screen shots — hardly exemplifies Islam’s burgeoning footprint.

(Either out of either ignorance or disrespect, by the way, the Ellmers campaign was unable to refer to these profoundly revered historical sites by any of their formal names, including the Hagia Sophia in modern Istanbul, and the Catedral de Córdoba or the Mezquita in Cordoba, and especially, the sacred Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.)
