Sex And The Shifty

I apologize if I’m late on this, but somehow I hadn’t heard about arch-conservative Lynne Cheney’s homoerotic novel, entitled “Sisters,” until I read Frank Rich’s piece (“Mr. Bush Won’t Be at The Tonys”) in last Sunday’s Times.

The graphic above comes from a wonderful layout at whitehouse.org, which has an image of the book’s cover and title page, as well as other juicy excerpts. Although published in 1981, the book didn’t seem to catch notice until recently. The story really picked up this past April, however, with the news that Penguin planned to reissue the trashy romance novel. Within days, however, Penguin decided to drop the idea.
