Above is Open Secret‘s list of the twenty corporations that were donors this year to both presidential conventions. Even though the McCain-Feingold law bars soft-money contributions to the national political parties, the Federal Election Commission decided last year to remove a 1994 ban on individual and corporate convention sponsorship.

In a feature on the corporate underwriting of the Democratic Convention, CBSnews.com captured a telling moment from one of the sessions this week:

Rep. Lincoln Davis, D-Tenn., rose on Wednesday to give the invocation to the crowd of delegates and members of Congress who had gathered in the Harvard Club, 38 stories above Boston’s streets.

Speaking in a smooth, soft voice, he asked the room to pray for the country, for its troops overseas — and for others.

“Bless the people who are here, the corporate sponsors, the corporate citizenship they are providing,” Davis said.
