Two Views of the GOP's Iowa Freedom Summit

The Iowa Freedom Summit is an avowedly far-right conclave for Iowans to get a close look at prospective GOP presidential nominees. Because Campaign ’16 is going to be as much a battle for media hearts and minds, I thought it’d be interesting to compare some of Mark Peterson’s photos of the event for MSNBC with shots from AP and Reuters that appeared in a Freedom Summit slideshow at Yahoo News.

If Peterson’s shots are more consistently dark and cynical in tone, it’s not to say that the Yahoo Gallery doesn’t match, and in certain instances, exceed Mark’s most equivalent photo for skepticism and even mockery.

Such is the state of American politics, the characters involved (in both senses of the word) catering to the more extreme factions.

Not surprisingly though, where one doesn’t see much difference between the two presentations is in the subduing of the immigration reform protester. The summit draws its own borders in more ways than one.
