Thrilled as I am to have escaped LA, I’ve been running all over Berkeley. This afternoon, I just had to stop though when I saw this in one of the newspaper display cases outside the so-named Cal campus Free Speech Movement Café — especially with this woman completely transfixed.
Quite an image, no?
You’ll see below how the photo, a brilliantly-suggestive editing choice, morphed in my mind. Clearly though, this is what the visual media is wont to do. If we’re in another one of those countdowns where the time for temperance is somehow running out, this photo perfectly sets up the lizard brain.
Update: I forgot to mention how much the effect is heightened because of how absolutely large as well as centered the photo is. It’s as if the page (echoing the car door) was a second door — or actually, a window — the PM is about to pop out of.
