There is so much going on here. “Bless this mess.” “Above it all.” Love the boy’s hands to the wall, far left. And then, far right … aren’t the boy’s outstretched arms wonderful — like he owns “his lot,” but in the true spirit of faith, also transcends it?
Not that the church isn’t committed to good works, but the photo — in the old city of Jerusalem — sets up a contrast between charity, ritual and the forward march.
Should have figured it was an American pilgrim when I saw that belly.
