London Calling

U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama arrive at London's Stansted Airport, March 31, 2009. Obama arrived in Britain on Tuesday for this week's G20 economic crisis summit, starting his first major trip abroad since taking office on Jan. 20. REUTERS/Jason Reed (BRITAIN POLITICS)

44 and MO personally never struck me that way before, but with the English press buzzing, this photo of the beaming Obamas deplaning in London — Michelle holding on particularly tight given the footing — seems to have a JFK/Jackie O feel to it. And then, that yellow doesn’t hurt.

(I also thought the Madame Tussaud wire photo the NYT ran Tuesday reflects a similar inspiration. Sure, Obama and The Queen are amusing in wax. The pairing, however, speaks to how much Obama, as a world-wide phenomenon, has become just as iconic.)
