Well, Obviously

Mccain-Nancy-Reagan

“Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided, and then we endorsed,” the Republican matriarch said in March. “Well, obviously this is the nominee of the party.” They were the only words she would speak during the five-minute photo op.

from: McCain’s broken marriage and fractured Reagan friendship (LAT)

This shot from March led yesterday morning’s otherwise late-to-the-table LAT front page piece on McCain’s first marriage.  Nancy strongly embraced Carol McCain and, as you can observe, has never forgiven John for leaving her the way he did.

At this point, I couldn’t think of a better shot to characterize McCain’s painful run.  As a flawed candidate in front of an exhausted and fractured party, the real strategy behind the strategy is to just try and keep up appearances.

(Can’t say the pic bids that well, either, for all those cross-over Hillary votes.)
